In Subtopic 1 on onomastic research on a historic perspective I wish to explore the complex processes of the evolution and consolidation of the religious preferences exerted by the Transylvanian Churches in the use of first names during the Reformation and the Counter – Reformation in the16th – 18th centuries. The extent and ratio of confessional distribution of onomastic preferences among the Protestants and Catholics will be studied on a socio – onomastic basis as well, the sources of which have been published earlier. (See detailed plan of research.) I wish to make special efforts to investigate the role of the so called Sabbatarians in the history of name – giving traditions. A comprehensive archival research in the Archives of the Unitarian Church in Kolozsvár, the archives of Sepsiszentgyörgy as well as the Public Records (MOL) seems inevitable. In Subtopic 2 I have collected the different forms of names given to women from the 16th to the 19th century based on the published tomes of the 11 volume Hungarian Etymological Repository of Transylvania. I wish to give a survey of the status and alterations of the names in accordance with the era and social status of the people whose traditions they reflect. In Subtopic 3 I turn to a corpus of names reflecting our present. I exhibit and analyse the hypocorism in Kalotaszeg in the 20th century based on the evolution and other functional criteria. The investigation includes the study of the physiology and dialect geography of the different names (in contrast with other regions in Hungary and Transylvania). It is predicted that a field – trip to collect supplementary data in Kalotaszeg may be necessary.
