Such a research is based on the use of several different methods. One extreme is characterised by purely theoretical research generally used for the survey and interpretation of environmental conflicts. Alongside such a theoretical research, we are going to process the data and the interpretations provided by the specialised literature concerning water pollution in the southern region of the Great Hungarian Plain. During our own empirical research we assess the values, interests and preferences of the different groups of society concerning water pollution. Within the frame of the empirical research with an environment-sociological character, we are planning to accomplish a questionnaire-based collection of data which is going to involve a population of 1200 in the area affected by water pollution. With the help of deep interviews we are going to define the environmental awareness, the system of values, references and environmental interests characterising the local society (inhabitants, representatives of the local environmentalist movements, experts, politicians, etc.).
As the result of our theoretical and empirical research, we are planning to produce 3-4 independent essays as well as 2 monographs. The first monograph is going to treat the social aspects of the cyanide pollution on the Tisza and methodologically it will be principally based on the specialised literature and the available data. The second monograph will deal with the social aspects of the water pollution occurring in the southern region of the Great Plain and its chosen method will involve both the processing of the data provided by the specialised literature and independent empirical research of an environment-sociological character.
