Project details

Project reference: IST-2001-37348
Acronym: EUROTRAINING
Title: Provision of microsystems and related training in Europe
Subject Index: Information Processing, Information Systems; Innovation, Technology Transfer
Objectives: Objective: The objective of the EuroTraining proposal is to provide a European training action to enhance the development of the European knowledge-based society in the field of microsystems and microelectronics based components and subsystems technology. The EuroTraining action will offer access to a comprehensive range of advanced training courses, a European MST Master programme and employee training support. The initiative will develop a number of advanced training courses related to microsystems and microelectronics. Special attention will be devoted to develop and make available courses supporting the system-in-a-package approach and the multidisciplinary micro-nano integration issues. The action includes a joint European website with more than 400 training courses (www.eurotraining.net) and a quality labelling system for continuing training courses.

Work description:
The initiative consists of:
1. An action to make available courses and modules from leading MST curricula for continuing training to address the shortage of skilled engineers mainly for design in the field of microsystems and microelectronics based components and subsystems technology. The activity will include course modules for an International MST Master programme with easy access for NAS students by means of bursaries. Furthermore it will provide a system for Training-the-Trainers with emphasis on trainers coming from the NAS countries;
2. Furthermore the continuing training programme already developed by the partners within the EuroTraining project (IST-11262) will be maintained to offer high calibre quality labelled training in all Europe with a stronger focus on distance learning capabilities. Two very important EuroTraining assets are the European Course Directory containing more than 400 updated continuing training courses and the Quality Labelling service;
3. An overall awareness and promotion activity will be launched to promote the training programmes and attract the participants. In order to make the training information generally available it will be based on a web system developed as an extension to the European Course Directory already developed by EuroTraining (approximately 5000 monthly visitors). This means that this website will contain updated information on as well master curricula, distance learning and continued training offers as well as bursary schemes and training-the-trainers programmes. The awareness campaigns will therefore concentrate on promoting the web site: www.eurotraining.net.

Milestones:
A successful implementation of the initiative will:
- Facilitate a European MST Master programme;
- Update and renew essential reusable curricula modules which will be made available to industry for continuing training purposes;
- Organise continuing training courses in subject areas not yet covered by the market;
- Provide continued education of 1000 engineers per year;
- Maintain and extend a single European website with more than 400 annual courses;
- Maintain and extend a European quality labelling scheme for continuing training courses.
